Christmas Events to Get You in the Festive Mood

This year has flown by, and it’s now time to put up the tree and figure out those gifts. And while Christmas can be overwhelming, there’s plenty to love and enjoy with the family too. We’ve rounded up some jolly events that’ll get you excited for the special holiday.

Seriously, where did the time go?! It feels like only last week I was writing about Father’s Day. But it’s now Father Christmas’ time to shine, because it’s already December, and Christmas is right around the corner. While the big day can certainly make for a fair deal of stressing and planning, make sure you leave time to enjoy the festive season too. And with that, behold: our long list of Christmas events that’ll get you feeling merry and bright! We’ll keep updating this list the more we find.


CATCH THE ROWES CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW

When: every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in December, plus every day of the week leading up to Christmas, running 6.00-9.00pm

Bring the whole family to see the Rowes building come to life! Enjoy "Aussie Jingle Bells" by Colin Buchanan, elves making toys in Santa's Workshop, and Toowoomba's biggest Nativity Scene.

Step into a Christmas Wonderland

When: every night til and on Christmas Eve, from 7.00-10.00pm

Step into a Christmas fantasy, every night until the special day! The Lions Club of Toowoomba West and the Wonderland Project Team have returned to create this bright and colourful light display that the whole family will enjoy. There'll also be a BBQ each night for dinner, and free ice-cream and popcorn for the little ones, as well as entertainment on the main stage and roving entertainers and dancers. Don't forget some gold coins for entry.

CAPTURE THE MEMORY WITH FURRY FRIEND SANTA PHOTOS

When: Sunday, December 19, 7.30-11.30am

Come and meet Santa with your family, including your fur babies.

attend a comedy show

When: Friday, December 17, 7.30-9.30pm

Get ready - Emma Zammit, Craig Quartermaine and Shad Wicka are hitting T-bar read to tickle the living heck out of your funny bones. Hosted once again by local legend Nick Carr, this no-holds barred comedy show will be the loosest goosiest night out on the town.

CHECK OUT YOUR NEIGHBOURS’ CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Save time driving around and check out the map above for some breathtaking home and garden light displays, with neon candy canes and dancing Santas galore.

LEARN HOW TO COOK UP A FESTIVE FEAST

When: 18-19 December, 9.30am-3.00pm

The festive period is the time of year when you like to share great moments around a table with friends and family. It’s can also be one of the most stressful and busy times of the year. In these workshops hosted by Willow Vale Cooking School, you’ll learn how to not only cook delicious impressive “Fayre” but also to plan, and minimise stress.

WATCH A BELOVED TALE ON THE MAIN STAGE

When: Tuesday, 21 December at 6.00pm, Wednesday 22 December at 1.00pm & 6.00pm

Join Toowoomba Ballet Theatre for one of the sweetest treats of the holiday season: The Nutcracker. Travel with curious Clara and her adventurous prince as they journey through a kingdom filled with colourful characters and pure holiday magic. Created by local choreographer Mia Huston, this beloved classic accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s timeless score has been condensed to a single act, to cater especially for young audiences.

Dance the night away

Santa Hat Christmas Party
When: Thursday, December 23, 8.00pm

Wear a Santa Hat and join the festivities at The Cube for this Christmas $2 Thursday Event. Cocktails, mistletoe, DJs, karaoke, prizes for best dressed, and an appearance from Santa!

GET YOUR PRESENTS WRAPPED

Wrapping might not be your forte, and that’s why RACQ Lifeflight has sent some of its angels to Grand Central to save your Christmas. Bring a gold coin donation and let them do their magic. Find their booths outside Myer on Level 1 and Level 2.
