Host Dining & Wine Bar
HOST / Standing out from the crowd for its laidback yet sophisticated atmosphere, HOST (recently renaming from Zev's Bistro) has been a stand-out in the Toowoomba food scene since it opened in 2016, before almost immediately becoming the city's first hatted restaurant, in 2017. At the time, it was a glimpse into the city's food scene "5 years from now", and still is, offering up a classy and creative menu of favourites and a progressive offer of nostalgic flavours and regional produce.
Chef Kyle Zevenbergen explains that the change is all about the natural evolution of the restaurant, and the philosophy that good food has the power to bring people closer together.
Along with the name change, the menu has seen some refinement; the ever-changing a-la-carte style menu is available every night, as well as a ‘Just Feed Me’ prix fixe [ pre- feks ] menu, with optional(?) wine parings, for when you can't decide. The wine list has also seen a growth spurt, now featuring over 100 select Australian and International wines.
The vibe is welcoming and this inner-city bistro comes alive each night, with chattering and soft lighting and artwork-covered walls, full of couples on date night, friends visiting from out of town, and those stopping by for a post-theatre snack.
The simple snack menu is as great for sharing as it is for having alone – be warned though, because you will inevitably want to eat everything.
Must-try dishes? We ate the Kingfish Crudo w/Nduja + Celeraic (left), Olasagasti Anchovies + Cucumber Sourdough, Curry Lamb Neck Croquette’s and the Black Angus Beef Cheeks, and mwah *chefs kiss* (like, seriously). . . .Our recommendation though, be brave and go for the prix fixe option with matching wines, you're in very safe hands!
